germs hot spots >>> very high bacteria alert

SPONGE

Your cleaning sponge which is the germs ‘hotel’, is probably the most bacteria-filled thing you’ll touch today. The average scrubber has about 7.2 billion germs in its humid nooks and crannies. Many of them are E.coli, Salmonella and Staphylococcus. To kill 99.9999 percent of germs , microwave your wet sponge, for at least 30 seconds daily or let your sponge dry into a hard little brick daily since many germs die without moistures. Anyhow, still some will survive and any time you wipe a mess you can spread the worst bugs around. So replace your sponges once a month.

KITCHEN SINK

Take note of this, faecal bacteria lives in your kitchen sink! Yes, its yuckily true. It gets there from meats contaminated during the slaughtering process or produce grown with manure-based fertiliser. Put your produce such as leafy greens in a bowl of water with a lil’ white vinegar or lemon juice and let it soak for about five to 10minutes to loosen the germs and then rinse well.

KITCHEN COUNTER AND CHOPPING BOARD

Raw poultry and meats are often crawling with Salmonella, E.coli and Campylobacter bacteria, which can cause diarrhoea. The best thing is to separate cutting boards for meats and other foods and disinfect them after each use. Then make sure you cook poultry and burgers all the way through.
