The pinkish slime that forms on your bathroom walls, tub or shower curtains is Serratia marcescens, germ that can cause UTI or pinkeye if it gets to your urethra or eyes when you’re taking a bath/shower. To prevent this disgusting film from forming, scrub your bathroom surfaces once a week. If you notice telltale signs of pink slime on your shower stall or shower curtain, do replace them – stat!
YOUR FLUFFY PETS
According to professionals, you’re more likely to catch a bug from another person than form your pet. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be aware of what you can catch from household pets. The type of diseases range from food-borne pathogens, like Campylobacter and Salmonella, which cause digestive problems, respiratory infections (asthma and psittacosis), allergies (rhinitis) and more serious infections (which are extremely rare like antrax and avian influenza). To prevent animal-to-human diseases, common sense and hygiene is important. Don’t share food with your pets and keep them clean.
CONTACT LENSES CASES
A study of contact lenses users found that 66 percent of lens cases had an amoeba that can cause infection, even blindness. So, change your case every three or six months.
YOUR OFFICE
The average person, touches around 30 things in 60 seconds at work, according to the research by microbiologists. That means your hands are probably coated with bacteria, since your colleague’s sneeze or cough could splatter microscopic droplets of infected mucous on your table, stationary, phone, computer keyboard, even your files and folders. To be safe, its a good idea to wash your hands before you eat anything on your desk and keep your hands away from your face. Also make a good habit to give your office phone keypad and handset a daily swipe with disinfecting wet wipes. Hurmm.. your phone is the most dirtiest thing on your desk with about 25000 organisms per square inch.
THE CASHIER’S PEN
A community pen is a record of everyone whos touch it that day and whatever the touched earlier too,. Germs can live up to a day on a pen’s surface. So, carry your own k!
YOUR TOOTHBRUSH
Microscopic droplets of moisture can fly up to a whopping 20 feet when you flush, so whatever thats in your toilet bowl can eventually land on the fine bristles on your toothbrush. Eww! So, keep your toothbrush head in a plastic cap you can buy from the pharmacy or inside the bathroom cabinet. To kill off many germs, let your toothbrush dry out in between uses. After a clof or flu, you may want to consider tossing your toothbrush. Put in mind that viruses can live for about 24-48 hours on its bristles, so theres a chance you’re reinfecting yourself when your immune system hasn’t build up complete resistance to the particular bug you’ve worked hard at getting rid off. At least, splash your toothbrush with hydrogen peroxide or germ-killing mouthwash after an illness.
p/s: thats why i don’t really like pets! Reasonable kn kn..
